Five Reasons Why You Should Spend Halloween 2019 in Dublin

One of our favorite holidays is Halloween. All October long, we love pumpkin spice everything, watching all of our favorite Halloween movies, and generally getting hyped for the big event: getting dressed up and partying the night away. This year, we’re spending Halloween in Dublin. But, why Ireland?

Of course, we’ve all heard of the Irish love of pubs and brews, so if one thing is certain, having a good night out is essentially guaranteed in Dublin. But we’re Halloween purists, and we’re here to tell you five more reasons why Ireland should be your #1 choice for Halloween.

The Origin of Halloween

Internationally, people often associate only St Patrick’s day with the Irish, but did you know Ireland is the actually the birthplace of Halloween? That’s right! Witches, goblins and all that goes bump in the night started in Ireland over 3,000 years ago as the pagan festival of Samhain. The Celts believed that as summer changed into winter, the boundary between the world of the living and the Otherworld of the dead was at its thinnest. That meant that the dead could enter back into the world of the living! In order to ward off these evil spirits, the Celts would light bonfires. In time, this festival of fire developed into ‘All Hallows Eve’, and today, to Halloween.

Who could imagine a better place to be than in Dublin–the country’s capital–on the spookiest day of the year?
