Oh the places Sydney would go….

Spring 2010 was the BEST semester of my life.  Studying at John Cabot University in Rome was life changing, and the weekends I spent all over Europe were the most fun of my life. If I could relive the semester this year, oh the places I would go with Bus2alps… my life would’ve been some much less hectic in Rome if I hadn’t had to spend so much time planning what cities to see and organizing transportation.  Here’ s my “perfect” travel schedule, so you don’t miss anything while you’re here :D

Rome 2 Interlaken

I didn’t make it to Interlaken when I was a student.  Biggest regret, especially now that I’ve been there.  It’s the most pristine place I’ve ever seen… there’s no place like the Swiss Alps.  Things I’d do in Interlaken: learn how to ski all day Friday and end the night with a little sledding in the dark.  Saturday I’d scare myself shitless on the canyon swing, then spend the night gettin’ down @ Metro Bar.  Chocolate & watches & extreme sports, oh myyyy.

Florence & Venice

Firenze!  The other city I somehow missed when I was in Roma.  Now that I’ve been, I don’t know how I missed it.  This weekend is perfect, just enough time to eat at Il Gatto e La Volpe then ride gondolas through the canals on Venezia while wearing a Carnival mask.  Preferably one with bells on it.

Vienna & Salzburg

Vienna and Salzburg are two of the most incredible cities I’ve ever experienced, especially since I like to pretend I know a lot about opera, classical music and Mozart.  It makes me feel artsy and like I’m allowed to drink too much coffee and wear crazy clothes.  Finish the weekend with the Sound of Music tour and walk down the same aisle Maria did when she married Captain Von Trapp.  The hills really are alive…

London

Yayayayayayaya London!  What’s not amazing about the city that has Shakespeare (my attempts at being artsy and cultured culminate here), Anne Boleyn, Prince Harry (way hotter than Wills) and Harry Potter?  Not to mention that at this point you’ll have done some traveling and it will be nice to speak English for a few days J

Paris

When you think of Europe, you probably think of London and Paris instantly.  Why not visit them back to back?  J’adore Paris, as does Carrie Bradshaw, and it just gets better every time I go.  My favorites?  The Eiffel Tower at night, Montmartre for more artsyness since Picasso and Amelie lived there, Musee D’Orsay & Versailles.  Such an iconic city with such reliable public transportation, victory.

3/9/12

Morocco, Souks & the Sahara

Talk about the road less traveled.  How many people do you know who can say they’ve been to Africa?  From the food (my favorite cuisine in the world… so unique) to the markets.  It’s definitely a place you will learn how to bargain.  Having tea with a local family was one of the most interesting (in a good way) experiences of my life, and I can’t wait to get back on my camel….

Home Sweet Rome

Time for some R&R after a week in Africa (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRpeEdMmmQ0).  With the weather getting nicer and Spring on its way, this is the weekend I would take to find all the hidden places in Rome.  You’ve been to the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain.  Try Villa Borghese where you can rent a segway (my dad and I raced around the park.. got a bit out of hand) or a bike and explore the Central Park of Rome.  Head to Trastevere, my favorite part of the city, and feel like an authentic Roman.

3/29/12

Barcelona

Get.Ready.To. Party.  Barcelona is guaranteed to be a crazy time.  It’s the first place I ever ate calamari, and now I’m hooked.  Spend the days ‘splorin the beach, Las Ramblas (hold onto your stuff tho…) and check out Guadi’s best @ Park Guell and La Sagrada Familia.  Dow Jones is fun at night, and the clubs are nuts… you might even catch a world famous DJ spinning some wicked house music if you’re lucky.

4/5/12

Amsterdam

I can’t lie, I was a little worried about Amsterdam before I went the first time.  Would everyone be stumbling around dazed and confused?  Turns out, no, they’re not.  Amsterdam turned out to be one of the most pleasant surprises I’ve ever had.  The canals are beautiful; the red light district is fascinating; the coffee shops are plentiful and I cried when I went in the Anne Frank house… it’s in my top three favorite museums in Europe for sure.

4/12/12

Prague

Ask anyone I’ve ever met… I’m a bit of a Prague enthusiast.  They should hire me to do their PR.  I am obsessed with the energy of this city.  It’s so ancient.  The castle makes me think of moats and dragons and princesses, and all of that is smashed together with the youthfulness and excitement of the last twenty years without communism.  Not to mention the happiest place on earth is in Prague: Lucerna is the most amazing club where everyone can act a fool to the best music videos of the 80s and 90s.  Next on my list in Praha: hear live music at the Rudolfinum.

4/19/12

Berlin

Anyone who is interested in history, AT ALL, has to make it to Berlin.  The Holocaust memorial is unforgettable, as is the moment in the New Europe tour when the guide stops you in a parking lot to point out that you are standing above the bunker where Hitler committed suicide.  Sorry to be so morbid, but this is powerful stuff, people.

4/26/12

Croatia

The place you have always wanted to go that you didn’t know you wanted to go.  It’s the hottest beach destination in Europe right now.  Recent sightings?  Beyonce and Jay-Z  (Pre-baby Blue Ivy’s birth).  White water rafting, island hopping and partying in paradise; what could be better?

5/3/2012

The Amalfi Coast

There is no better place to end the best semester of your life.  I really believe this is the best place on earth.  Take the chairlift to the top of the Isle of Capri for the most insane view in the entire world and then enjoy some limoncello on the beach in Positano.  Even though her marriage was a joke, Kim K’s honeymoon to the Amalfi coast was the real deal.
