Gianna Shepherd’s Ideal Travel Schedule
After putting this together, I think I need to study abroad again.
Weekend of September 6th:
Siena & San Gimignano – A nice little day trip to get out of the city, but stay within the Tuscan region to learn more about the history and landscape of the surrounding area. Plus, they are cute little towns!
Cinque Terre – Waking up early on a Sunday morning can be tough, but it’s always worth it when there’s gorgeous views to be had, a little bit of exercise and then down time on the beach.
Weekend of September 13th:
Croatia – I went 5 years ago but had total crap weather and didn’t get to see nearly as much as I wanted to. I’d really love a second chance considering I get increasingly more jealous every time I see pictures!
Weekend of September 20th:
Lisbon & Peniche – I’ve never been to Portugal and have wanted to go ever since my friend went there a few years ago. I’ve heard it’s beautiful, not too expensive and the food is bomb. Sounds good enough to me!
Weekend of September 27th:
Scotland – Before it gets too cold up in Northern Great Britain, I’d really like to check out Scotland. I’ve heard it’s small enough that you can cover a lot of land in a little bit of time. I can’t understand a word those crazy Scots say, but I’m curious to see how different/similar it is to the parts of England I’ve visited.
Weekend of October 4th:
Barcelona + Montserrat day trip – Unlike every other American study abroad student, I’ve never gone to Barcelona. I think for one weekend I could muster up the energy to stay out dancing all night long and maybe catch some beach time if it’s still warm enough! But, I’d like to sneak some culture in there too and hit up Montserrat for the day.
Weekend of October 11th:
Sardegna – I’m thinking this time of the year it will be a bit quieter, but still warm enough to enjoy a weekend away in Sardegna. I’ve heard amazing things from the family that I used to nanny for and would like to see it all for myself.

Weekend of October 18th:
Copenhagen – I don’t know much about Denmark, to be honest, but I’m really curious to see what Copenhagen is all about. My sister’s boyfriend said this was his favorite stop when he was going all around Europe this summer and I’ve heard good things from Trine (from Denmark).
Weekend of October 25th – November 1st:
Eastern Loop – SIGN ME UP BABY! I’ve never been to Ljublana but did some reserach on it last year as I was looking to go and it sounds BOMB. It’s supposed to be gorgeous…and more importantly, inexpensive. Budapest – NEVER BEEN and really want to go. I want to see the Bohemian lifestyle at its finest and maybe check out some caves while I’m at it. Prague never gets old. And Krakow, I went five years ago but it was too cold to really wander around and get the full experience. I’d like a second chance to get into the culture and see what’s cool.
Weeknd of November 8th:
Morocco – Camels, hookah, spices - exotic and an adventure. No further explanation needed.
Weekend of November 15th:
Berlin – My friends went to Berlin around this time last year and loved it. I’ve been to Munich and it’s one of my favorite European cities, so I’m very interested in seeing what Berlin is like and how it compares. I’ve heard the history is really cool and that there’s a lot of variety in things to do, see and eat.
Weekend of November 22nd:
Amsterdam - I don’t know how I’ve managed to go to this amazing twice city without ever seeing the Van Gogh museum and riding bikes around, but I’d love to go back and do both of these things!
Weekend of November 29th:
Interlaken – An escape to Interlaken is always refreshing. Hiking, exploring and maybe even being brave enough to try a new activity…eek! Also, I’m a sucker for My Little Thai.
Weekend of December 6th:
Vienna & Salzburg – I’ve been wanting to check out the Christmas markets in Vienna & Salzburg for two years now and have yet had the opportunity. I’m imagning it to be absolutely gorgeous and I wouldn’t mind trying the food as well.
